What are the best experiences buying from ebay coin dealers who don't sell conterfit coins? I've heard places like APMEX and gainsville sell legit pandas but I thought about checking out ebay. BTW, if a forum moderator could move this topic to another section of the forum that would be best. Thanks. Edited by dailyYen36 06/23/2013 7:23 pm

Stay away from Gainsville, not a place you want to do business with. Stay away from sellers from China on ebay as well, Theres a lot of legit pandas on ebay though. Theres always the option of buying graded, but most coin stores also sell on ebay especially the bigger ones. Just remember if its too good to be true it probably is. The good thing about ebay though is if you get a fake one you get all your money back with the buyer protection. As long as you stick to places with a good track record and reputation you should be fine though

I thought they were okay, when I bought a couple of coins on the site. I want to know what other options there are on the web.

Theyve been caught selling fake things several times and dont replace it, send out things of any quality and wont stand by their products and are a spin off of a company called National Gold Exchange which is being sued big time by its creditors for A LOT of things. A simple google search on that name gives you more than enough to see what type of company youre dealing with. Its been discussed several times in the PM forum but just google Gainsville coin reviews as well and its the same horror stories over and over no matter what review site you check. Its not just a handful of bad reviews either its consistently a lot.
To me personally I bought a commemorative from them and when I got it it was covered in glue. They told me I was making it up but it didnt matter because it was just bullion. When I said okay then refund the premium and Ill keep it for for the bullion prices of silver they sell and they said it had a numismatic value. Long story short they basically told me to kick sand and they werent going to do anything to fix the situation. Theres more than enough good sellers out there to never deal with sellers like that so I will never buy anything from them again.

This is what I look for when buying coins on ebay. The sellers must be in the USA and with a feedback rating of 99.8% or better. I also read through the sellers most recent feedback to see what others are saying about them. And view what other items the seller is selling. There are many coin/precious metal dealers, like Modern Coin Mart and pawn shops that are reputable & have not any issues with them. I would run away from any silver product from China.

They probably were, not every one has problems with them. You can risk buying from them and everything will be fine until it wont be. If you happen to be one of the unlucky ones though from my personal experience and all the reviews its pretty clear youll be left high and dry. If someone wants to risk it thats their choice. I would rather deal with companies that stand behind what they sell and give them my business

I suggest you do a search on the forum for information about Gainesville. Most people don't have problems, but when they get taken advantage of it can be bad.

Never dealt with Gainsville, but if people say stay away there's good reason to do so. Pandas are not that easy to fake, generally check the reeding, the lack of denomination, the pattern of the fur, etc on various issues. There's Panda website that goes into detail of the most counterfeited types of silver Pandas. If you are looking for reputable dealers for Panda silver, try APMEX and SilverTowne.

I have recently sold 3 2012 Pandas on ebay. Personally I think the seller was terrific.

1---On Gainesville, BB21 is quite right. Do your homework and google up reviews of Gainesville itself as well of the predecessor "National Gold Exchange." There's some very unsettling historical reading about this one company or these two companies (however you may choose to word it) that isn't hard to find. 2---@Welder -- ebay "feedback ratings" are easily fabricated. A while ago in some thread here @ CCF, one poster mentioned how one of his kids and the kid's friends (@college) all "sold" stuff (tee, hee) to each other via ebay to create numbers for their ebay feedback stats. If you're looking at a vendor with several thousand feedbacks with 99.9% positive, you should (hopefully) be safe, but... As always .....

Fred That's a lot of ebay and Paypal fees to pay for ratings.

They didn't necessarily use PayPal, the item prices could have been low to hold ebay fees down and I've heard of college students doing even more unusual things than that. I suspect most of us have. When it comes to "going high" or "going low" with my threshold of trust in anything and everything to do with ebay, I'm definitely going with the latter.
