Anyone else having trouble with the new mint sets and their quality? Im about to send back my set for the 2nd time due to really poor quality. Both have had scratched coins, stained coins, and Presidential dollars whose color has already started to turn. Its been both mints too which is unusual and the Roosevelt dollar for whatever reason has been awful in both sets.

My 2013's have been fine but I have had to send sets back in the past. Not much quality control going on at the mint apparently.

I just pulled mine out of the box to look closer - and have to say these look really good. I have no color issues and not scratches. I am actually pretty impressed with mine.

Ive usually been very impressed by the ones I've gotten in the past, guess I'm just having a bad luck run with it right now. Struck me as odd though that the same coins seemed to be the problem.
I would definitely agree with Ken that the QC seems to have gone down hill.

I thought they were fine until I read your post! Generally they look okay, but I noticed that the satin finish is a bit more pebbly than earlier sets. There is poor differentiation on the TR where his hair meets his face, but that might just be a bad haircut.

I have not received my sets yet, so I'm hoping they will be good enough to keep. I understood that the Mint stopped making the Satin finish after 2010 - that they did the Satin finish Uncirc sets from 2005 - 2010 - that they went back to the standard business strike in 2011. Does that sound correct?

Pap that sounds right to me.
Old these arent supposed to have that satin finish but now that you mention it a couple of mine that look like their plancets were washed poorly do kind of have that look with their spottiness.
Just to add a little humor to it I also just noticed the packaging copy write date is 2012 which made me chuckle for some reason

Sorry, I was referring to my proof sets, not mint sets.

I almost bought a 2013 mint set at the last coin club meeting but the mega dealer who supplies all of the other local dealers with bullion Eagles and such was selling them had all of the sets still sealed in the original sealed boxes and wanted $28 (checking the mints website that is what they are going for plus shipping) When I got home and checked ebay it seems parted out sets sell for about the same price if not more. I opted for 4 silver eagles instead. Oh well live and learn as I need the last 2 years worth of dollar coins and ATB Quarters. I did get my 2013 silver proof set which luckily ended up looking awesome on all coins.

Well just got my 3rd mint set today from all this. The Pres dollars finally look good and now my Philly ATBs are covered in glue and look awful.
Im now going to be spending about half the price of the set returning it again.
Does anyone know if I order 10 sets can I return 9 or do I have to return all 10 assuming I find a good one in the batch?

You can return any quantities that you've ordered. If it's quality issue, make sure you specify that when returning and keep the shipping/postage receipt. Send it back w/ a request for refund of the postage cost. The Treasury will send you a check (after a few weeks) for the refund.

Call on the return nine of ten thing. I am not sure on that.
As for the issue, none of ours have been of poor quality. Mine have been lovely. Though I do have one sitting here still in the box. Hmmm...... *reaches over...*
OK, the only thing on that set is a couple minor scratches on the Sac. Nothing worthy of me sending it back. So it seems you are just having some bad luck my friend.

Bad luck for sure smoke. I've gotten the mint sets for a while and have never sent any back until now. I dont collect the sacs so Id happily take a bad sac as the only issue especially at this point. It is starting to sound like its just my sets, maybe they found out I cut them up for albums

Ordered silver proof set from the mint and I didn't find any problems with the coins themselves but I found a lot of little annoying issues with the plastic protectors.
scratches over the plastic on my silver dime about half an inch or so, its noticeable.
i see debris like a little hair or dust in the plastic cases also. I was not happy with the plastic cases. If it wasn't a proof set, I really wouldn't care that much but the reflective finish of the coins bring out the dust and nonsense inside the plastic packaging and it drives me crazy.
I haven't looked at it in months but I'm still thinking about it, so when I order my next 2 sets, I'll wait to see the quality and probably send something back for a replacement.
