hello all, I hope you are all well. I found a very interesting nickel today when I cracked open a roll at work. It practically jumped out on me when I saw it in my initial quick look through as I put them in the drawer. It's lack of detail and the wear on jeffersons head and Monticello and yet the very sharp "luster" is what stood out to me. looking at the date I was pleasantly surprised to find its a War Nickel, a 1945 d. even plated a War Nickel is a War Nickel. plus to be honest I think it's probably my favorite of the 10 I've found. showing it to people gets a lot of reaction more than a regular old War Nickel, it's a semi-excited "woah, that is really cool!" instead of a disinterested "cool, I guess" and then after I tell them it's a plated normal one most likely I get to bring up how people can electroplate coins.
What do you guys think? am I right it's plated? sorry the pics aren't the best but the g/f and I tried for about 45 minutes and these were the best ones.

I would say it's either plated or VERY harshly cleaned.
I'm terrible at identifying cleaning so let's see what others say.

the verdict is in, I was right. I was rubbing along the rim and noticed a bit of roughness I missed before and scraped it a bit with my fingernail and a bit of the plating came off. still a neat find. I think this might be the first time ever someone plated a coin and it actually had some numistatic value added, as it stimulated some interest from my coworkers and the regulars in coins and coin collecting, even if it did it the wrong way(plating).
