1989-D Lincoln Silver Colored (Heat Treated?)

brenpickle Pillar of the Community United States 836 Posts	Posted 06/26/2013 11:44 pm This lincoln appears silver in color with a purplish and gold toning. My guess is heat treated after stripping the copper. I don't think it is plated because it has hits and no copper is showing through unless I found it plated recently after it was done. What is your all opinions. Did I strike gold and find a planchet that was made without the copper coating. I highly doubt that. Could also be an acid job, but I figured that would make the coins surfaces porous. Friend got this for me out of a take a penny leave a penny thing at a gas station. Yes, that bright purple is what it looks like in hand, with some goldish color mixed in. Thanks for all the feedback. I can try to get better pictures up tomorrow. Its late for me and I work tomorrow, but I am too excited to hear your feedback on this to wait to post it. I have been excited to get home all day to get on here. I think I am going to keep it just for the uniqueness of it and the fact that it is only a cent. I am sure the PMD adds no value. Anyone else think this is something different?
