So, tomorrow's my birthday and I decided to go ahead and get something special for myself (without breaking the bank, which means no new sports car I'm afraid). I don't normally go for certified coins, but I figured if I'm gonna spend a sizable chunk of cash I might as well protect myself for a change. So, here's what I decided to get from APMEX: 1884-CC Morgan dollar - MS-64 DMPL Deep Mirror Proof Like PCGS At $500, the price seemed fair (Numismedia currently lists it at $630) and the certification means I don't have to guess whether it's "really" DMPL or just PL. Now comes the waiting...

Happy Birthday! Sounds like you got a good deal too! I would like to see that as well! I have a PCGS PL CC Morgan, but a DMPL may cure my "hum-drums". APMEX is here in OKC, I may have to stop by there and "browse".

Happy Birthday! Sweet! Sounds like a good deal to me as well and I can't wait to see it either! I love DMPL Morgan's! And a CC is just icing on the cake for you! I have a old small white ANACS 1883CC MS-63 DMPL (with a bit of rainbow toning) but I think if resubmitted it has a decent shot at a 64, which is one of the reasons I bought it.. (The other is that it was a rainbow DMPL ) and there's no doubt it's a DMPL so that helped in my decision as well. But anyways, enough rambling on my part.. Lol, so again, happy birthday, I hope you have a great day! And post pics of that baby asap so we can all more!

Nicely done, in PCGS 64DMPL. Ever seen one? You won't believe it.

All right, the coin just arrived in today's mail! First some general pics, taken within the PCGS holder: And here's an attempt to show off how reflective it is (still within the holder, of course): It's a beautiful coin and I'm very happy with it. I have to admit, though, that I was wasn't as blown away by it as I thought I would be. As I mentioned earlier, I own a number of "proof like" Morgan dollars, some of which I've always suspected might qualify as DMPL. Now that I have a certified example to compare, I can say that some of my other Morgans really might qualify after all. Which is to say that this one doesn't look all that different from the other ones I own. Maybe someday I'll save up and actually buy a certified proof Morgan dollar...
