would like my friends at ccf to grade this 1859 IHC. also, I have seen this same type of mottled color on other CN coins. Is this normal? what causes it? Edited by panzaldi 06/28/2013 2:11 pm

AU50 (seperation of the ribbon from the hair)...I do not know what to say about the CuNi cent color, but you may have too much illumination on the coin from the top (tips of the feathers, nostrils and under the eye are bright and so is the upper portion of the reverse).

I'm more in the EF45 camp on this one. Color is tough but I think the yellow is more from the lighting and camer white balance being off. Looks like a good example of Longacre Doubling on the reverse lettering, though I'm also seeing what appears to be doubling in the leaves on the wreath possible DDR? Or perhaps Strike Doubling?

EF-AU IMHO. Hard to tell the color from the pic but it looks like it would be attractive in hand.

Panzaidi, nice IHC! This coin has been a pain in my gluteus maximus to find. Never sure of the right color for a 1859 CuNi cent. Trying to fill the 7070. Can a member post a true color. Panzaidi good question on color.

52Raymo...thats the color I would think it should be. I have seen many with this mottled greenish yellow look and thought it may have been from some type of cleaning and retoning that created it. I haven't handled enough of the CN cents to know.
I'm assuming by the higher end grades that the diamonds are not the only device used in the grading as this one may have one at best?
