Today I bought this 1771 George III halfpenny to celebrate America's Independence. Waiting for it to cross the Pond.

His Majesty will probably want to skip the trip to the Green Dragon Tavern. He'd probably not like the politics there as this is where the Boston Tea Party was planned.

Beautiful. I was just looking at these halfpennies as I have a well worn one that I cannot make the date out on (I hate not being able to date a coin!). Nice addition.

Do you mind me asking how much that would be worth?

I paid a lot for it - 170 quid (US$260). Hopefully it will be as nice as the picture.

Thanks Peter! I'm sure George will make his way back to England eventually. Whose knows how many places he has been in the last 242 years?

Who made him king? I didn't vote for him.

Nice coin and at the juncture of a historical shift that changed world history. Very cool.

Very beautiful. And I believe these originals are actually rarer than the contemporary counterfeits?
Ironically, though, the British stopped production of regal halfpennies in 1775, so this coin was not being minted at the time of the signing of the Declaration of Independence!

Lovely! That things never seen the ground. I wonder which collector first salvaged it from circulation?
