I got my ebay bucks, $13 worth today. I purchased this lot using them. I looked them over and did see the issues but am reading the sellers description of them. What do you think? Do you think a soak in acetone would improve the 1861 and 1863? Would you consider the 1861 to be XF details? Do you agree with the sellers assessment? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lot-of-5-Sm...p=true&rt=ncEdited by buddy16cat 07/04/2013 01:12 am

Id leave them alone, I dont think acetone would do much for copper but could be wrong. Id definitely leave the 63 alone at least, from the picture looks like thats been there for a while and id rather have that than a coin with pitted surfaces others may have a different taste.

Probably not what you want to hear, but I think all but the flying eagle have little eye appeal. I don't think there is anything you can do to make them look better. Personally, I'd rather have a worn coin than a pitted one.

I guess eye appeal can be subjective. I bought a coin advertised as "dark" but to me it has a nice dark violet color. I tend to like "mis-colored coins" like colored V nickels appose to the white-faced nickels most colors want. I agree a couple of them are kind of ugly though and are just fillers really. I really mostly noticed the 1861 with the bold "LIBERTY" that looks to have XF details to me.

I think it was a good buy. 1858 eagle - 6$ 1859 indian - 3$ 1860 indian - 4$ 1861 indian ( with XF details) - 20-25$ 1863 indian - 3$ overall - I'd easily pay 25$ for the lot.

That is what I was thinking too, the 1861 was worth about the price of the lot at least.

Actually, coins like this I usually only use distilled water and Verdi-care on them. I am looking at them to see if the coins would benefit from that but looks to be a waste an effort.

I think the picture of the coins reflected colors from light. Most of these are tan in color, except this coin has dark spots:
