I dont see it going anywhere, but if it did they could start with the half and the dime though. They better leave my ATBs alone until that finishes, mid series changes are one of my pet peeves.
I also doubt theyd make changes to the penny or nickel so soon though Id be for it with what they did to them. The Shield cent isn't bad, not a fan of the new jefferson obverse though.
That mini liberty dollar does look pretty good and thank god it isn't gold.

It's being pitched hard in the actual bill language ( http://beta.congress.gov/bill/113th...l/2535/text) as a "deficit reduction through increased seigniorage" kind of thing, and as such stands a pretty good chance of passing. I can't say I'm against that.

Quote: As mentioned, the Liberty-themed designs would be issued in addition to the existing design featuring the Presidential portrait. Epic fail. It should be a total replacement. What better way to unite our divided nation than removing those polarizing images?

Quote: Too many "how dare you displace the Presidents" types who need to be placated. They need to get over it. This nation should idolize celebrate Liberty, not people. I can almost understand someone getting bent out of shape replacing Roosevelt with Reagan (polar opposites), but Liberty is and should remain politically neutral. I need to quit before I get carried away.

I missed the replacement part, just what I need more albums If theyre going to do it just do it or mix up the presidents or something other than Washington until the ATBs are done. It might actually have a chance if its not a replacement, I'm still skeptical of them getting anything done though

So the plan is that coin collectors will shoulder national debt. That seems like a much better plan than practicing fiscal responsibility.

BTW, a lot of the seigniorage that came from the State Quarter program is slowly trickling back into the economy as previous casual collectors spend their collections.

If only an overhaul would happen...
I hope.
I pray.
I complain... :-)

First off, I would be very disappointed if they went to overtly designs but continues to also issue presidential themed coinage. Second, I would like them to hold off on messing with the quarter at all until the ATB series ends in 2021. Leave the cent alone, I love the Lincoln Shield cent. Go ahead with the gasparro design for the half dollar after the JFK 50th anniversary. That design would make me a very happy camper... It's beautiful. Come up with something new for the dime. Who knows what will happen but hey, at least it's being talked about.

I'm not going to comment very much, but I have to say I am in favour of the idea. But, I am not holding my breath. Like Superdave said, politics and government never come with guts .

Quote: They better leave my ATBs alone until that finishes, mid series changes are one of my pet peeves. I like Washington quarters .. and do want the ATB's to finish to completion ... But.... If they wanted to change the obverse .. and keep all the ATB reverse's to completion .. I would have no problem with that change ... as long as the new obverse was going back to a new version of the Standing Liberty quarter. Can you imagine a silver proof standing liberty quarter, with cool ATB reverses ...

I think the ATB reverses are the best thing to come out of the mint in a long time. I think they would look good with any obverse because I keep them in a folder! The obverse changes they made in 99 ruined it. GW's head is flat. I assume they did this to decrease die pressure. It just looks terrible. Did the same thing to Lincoln. Don't even get me started on the nickel. The first new head was kinda' cool and mod. Then they switched to the flat face. Maybe they were preparing people for the ugly Pres dollar series.

The cent and nickel aren't included in this. (I am no fan of either of these current designs) The coins would be added - no changes to existing coins. I see it as a way to phase out the existing coins. All the fears of changing the quarter during the run of these are wasted - the ATB will run out to the end unchanged by this bill. I agree with jbuck completely - end the personage on the coins.

Quote:... If they wanted to change the obverse .. and keep all the ATB reverse's to completion .. I would have no problem with that change I still wouldnt want to see that. It would be better than having the series abandoned but having the first few years with washington then all of a sudden they changed it would annoy me. The S mint surprise was bad enough, if they changed the obverse too it would just be a debacle of a series of patched together random things that they felt like trying through out. Quote: GW's head is flat. I assume they did this to decrease die pressure. I dont know if it made them easier to mint or not (Id guess it did) but I think they did it so theyd last longer. The flater designs spreads the wear of the coin out more so they wear down slower more evenly over time extending their life
