I apologize if I am duplicating a thread. I opened a cool mechanical coin bank that my grandfather kept in his dental office in the 60s. It was full of wheat pennies, some silver quarters, dimes, a War Nickel, and even a Mercury dime. Some really good looking 60s cents too. I've never actually found little "stashes" like this before. Anyone else have any piggy bank or desk drawer discoveries?

In this case, the 'piggy bank' is worth a lot more than the coins!
You may well be surprised what price this example may command at open auction!

However if it were mine, it would NEVER appear in an auction.

By the looks if it,
it appears to be made of enamel painted cast zinc or cast iron would be desirable piece to own and display.

I agree with sel_69l. I believe that piggy bank could be worth some money. I've seen similar ones on shows like Pawn Stars and American Pickers and they always go for big money, although I can't remember how big. You should do some research on it. Good luck and nice finds!

That is a good find both the coins and the piggy bank. I saw a reproduction like that on ebay that was priced at $40.

The bank is definitely worth way more than what was inside! You'd be surprised how passionate the mechanical bank collectors are, even more so than numismatists!

I just found a 1916 Buffalo nickel that came out of one of those self checkout machines at the grocery store. I looked up the price it looks like its worth $9-10,,not bad as it came out as change worth five cents. It's my oldest circulation find!!

Ah, I did a little more digging. It's actually a reproduction, albeit an old one. It's a 1960 version of a bank made originally in 1880. Works great though, and still is really cool.

Oh, and nice find, tkflex36 :)
