Gonna spend a couple days in Ottawa during the first week of August. I will be making reservations for the RCM tour soon! Is there anything else numismatically I should look for there? (Coin/currency museum, good coin shop etc.) I would like to get a hold of some cents while there, is there any way I could get a box of cents anymore? Thanks!

If you have wheels, the coin shop out in Almonte (Alliance Coins) is probably one of the nicer shops. The local shop (Universal Coins) is good, if you know the owner, but otherwise the local shops in Ottawa don't have a lot to offer.

You can not buy a box of pennies at the mint boutique. They used to sell rolls. Limit of 2 or 3. Sold out long ago

You could try the banks.... tell them you are an American tourist, and are looking for some pennies for your coin collection... it can't hurt to ask...

Universal coins is useless....Make the trip out to Alliance or try my personal favorite, Ashbrook. Lots on hand filling many display cases and a friendly atmosphere.

We had originally planned on going there last month but had to change plans so I missed the Currency Museum. Bummer!

The Canadian Currency Museum in the Bank of Canada building, amazing coins. They have a walk-in vault where you can see world and canadian banknotes. They had drawers in the center. Table, whre you could see everyyear of coins but hey said they took it out for conservation purposes, but it should be back by August.

Wow, the currency museum closed for three years?! That is one major renovation!
Coincidentally, closing occurred one day after Mark Carney started his new job in England.
