So I just picked up a miniature mint set for five dollars because I thought it was cool. But is there any point to these sets? Is there any collector value? I appreciate the feedback, thanks.

I think those are fun. I got a few sets for the nieces and nephew...so they'd have a little money when they went to college.

I think I only paid a dollar each, two years ago.

That's interesting. Someone gave me a few of these little 'coins' among a pocketful of odd foreign change, and I always wondered where they came from

" But is there any point to these sets?"
I saw a guy comment on here on a thread that had these that said he used them when putting together some kind of magic trick set.

It is a cool novelty. Or you could say that it represents the fact that our money is not worth as much these days.

Sometimes, you just buy an exomunic item, just because you happen to like it.
That's OK. I have a small number of pieces that have interested me.
If there is enough of such folks a collector demand can happen, but that rarely happens.
So just buy, and not look for any reward. Just enjoy.

I have a "collection" of oversize coin reproductions sold at places like the Lincoln Library in Springfield, IL, the American History Museum in DC and Monticello in Virginia. Other than the "I think it's cool" factor they have no real value.

I have a bicentennial set of these (1976) and to the best of my knowledge the only "point" being that it is just a novelty item. Still neat though.

I was given a tiny fantasy piece, based on the Lincoln Cent design, in a 2x2 stamped with an explanation â€" "The Nixon Penny! It just keeps getting smaller... and smaller... and smaller..."

Seems like they would be a fun, one time thing. Is there collector value? Well you bought them so I guess there must be some interest.
