Hi All,I am new to collecting and have found the following ebay listing. Is this a true 1930 Birmingham rare australian penny. I understand only possible 2 exist. The 0 looks fat all round in 1930. It shouldn't be like that.. What do you all think....

They will be when I drop this in the Australian Forum.

But first. A "real deal" London Penny:

ebay coin:

All you have to look at is the 9 and the 3. I cannot imagine differing dates being used on such a small mintage.

One added note: quick research seems to indicate that the "193" of the date was set in the Master Die, and therefore cannot be different between mints.

I have not chased info. on '30 pennies for decades.
Therefore, I stand to be corrected on what follows:
I had understood that there were only London and Indian dies.
How come a BIRMINGAM die?

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In the pictures presented, there is an obvious difference in the top and bottom of the "0" 's.

No ErikP, it's just an outright poor attempt at making one. These are not altered 'real' pennies, they are minted in China.

For Australian King George V Penny Coins; Birmingham dies were used for a few penny reverses, Rim Dentricle count 177; India die(also called Calcutta die, Rim Dentricle count 178,London Die Rim Dentricle count 174

There has never been a 1930 penny Authenticated by Royal Australian Mint that didnot have a London Reverse Die. The fact that at least two London Obverse Die coins were issued mint letters does make for interesting words over beer among 1930 enthusiasts.
Easiest check for real thing is get some hi-res scans of certified 1930 and overlay with suspect coin image in a photo propram. As more info gets out on the security checks in the pennies the serious forgeries get better and better.
This particular Maxx Scammer has been trying to dud people with this most obvious fake for some time and is still doing it!!

NO ONE in their right mind would sell a genuine '30 penny on ebay, for fear of not getting enough for it.
