I was looking through another thread in which people post their finds from cent rolls and noticed everyone list how many wheaties, copper, AND 2009 CENTS!? I was wondering why everyone keeps those. Should I be pullin aside every 2009 I find also? Thank you for the feedback you guys are great at answering all my questions.

Well there are a lot of varieties for the 2009 cents, especially LP2. Also it is very hard to find any LP4 roll searching. A box of LP4's sold on the bay for $350 John1

I think that's what it stands for. LP1 is the cabin,LP2 is the log splitter,LP3 is Lincoln standing and LP4 is the capitol under construction. John1

LP4s are few and far between in bank rolls. I save the higher grade ones.

The official names described from the Red BookLP1 "Birth and Early Childhood in Kentucky" LP2 "Formative Years in Indiana" LP3 "Professional Life in Illinois" LP4 "Presidency in Washington" I believe this is correct. @ John 1, a box of 50 rolls of LP4's ($25.00) sold for $350.00? Oh My!

The 2009 Lincoln cents have low mintages but quite a few people have hoarded rolls of them (me included) so I don't think their value will increase much in our lifetime.

I think we are a bit to close to the issue date to see a lot of movement in the pennies price.
I think they will eventually increase in price, but only for the high high end coins. The average circulated isn't going to gain you much.

Quote: The 2009 Lincoln cents have low mintages Compared to the billions that had been made recently they do have a lower mintage but I still wouldnt call them a low mintage. The lowest one still has over 300 million and 3 of the 4 are over 600 million. I agree with you and doug though, so moderns only the top grades will carry significant premiums. WAY too many of the uncirculated ones are getting hoarded for these to appreciate just for being uncirculated

I find the coins interesting and like the designs. I've been hoping to find a 2009 silver annual proof set at a discount closer to the current Mint price to get those coins. But I'm sure I will wait awhile for this to happen.
I can't find those coins in good shape in circulation. I put aside a few when I can though.
Its funny that I can find lightly browned pennies from the 60-70s in very good shape but the recent offerings are usually way too scratched up.
Probably from the make up of the coin, I guess. but its a little disturbing that these new coins are so easily mutilated.

I believe the "Presidency" P, ones(LP 4)have a mintage of under 300,000,000! The lowest in many, many, many years of the Lincoln Cent. Also, the LP 2's will RISE in price.Just wait and see.ESP.Wex.#6 Skeleton finger. The end rolls are the best to watch for.-joey

I keep them because I like their designs. Although I am letting the ones in bad condition slip past.

The acrylic tubes I save my 2009's in are worth more than (face value of) the contents. But I think it's cool to save the good ones.
Now, where I'm at (central Texas), I can rarely find any Philadelphia mint 2009s at all, let alone in good condition, so I save all of those.
Plus, 8 tubes of cents don't take up that much room.

I have a hard time believing that much of are circulation coinage is going to be worth anything in 40 years, but with what the stuff from the past is worth you never really know.

You can always pick up the 2009 proof penny lens. The proofs are around 90% copper as suppose to the normal zinc pennies.
