Got this at an auction with a number of other coins, some I wanted. I have no idea what it is and would love any thoughts. Is it silver? rings like silver and feels the same as a Morgan in hand and a magnet does not stick so? It's called a Silver Round. It's 1 troy ounce of pure silver. There are thousands of designs by hundreds of companies. How much did you pay for it? Today it's worth around $13

Thx, Grace. I understand about independent companies producing bullion rounds. Same as the Sunshine Mint making gold bars. I was surprised to see United States of America on a private co. round. Thx again, Jim
Oh, got it for about $3 when I avg for other coins purchased with it.

Jim, I don't know about collectable value (other than melt) but it sure does have some pretty detail, doesn't it?

I agree, Ralph, it is a very attractive design. I would sure like to find out who made it and any history. Also, it is interesting that it has some slight resemblance to the first ASE and this coin was minted in 1986, the same year as the ASE. Was there a competition for design? Jim

Don't think just because it's a silver round that it's only worth the silver though. There are people that collect these and you also get parallel collectors interested in them. For example, we had some Disney ones a while back that went for almost $30 each. They weren't bought by silver round collectors though, or even coin collectors for that matter, they were bought by Disney collectors.

Hi Jim There are many of the silver rounds that copy US coins ,,they are my favorites . I collect them as I find them ,, and I don't think I have ever been able to buy one for spot or silver value they always have a premium above that level. Metalman

I purchased one of the Silver Walking Liberty rounds at a coin shop in a local mall in 1987 exactly like one in the thread was started for. I carried it with me every day while I was in the Army and it held up really well. I figured it would spend in foriegn countries no matter where I was. Still have it today. :)

Hi Jim
I have l;ooked several times trying to find info on this particular round so far I have not found out its origin ,,
Most are made by private companies ,,much like the Engelhard bars.
