Bought this recently and found it intriguing.

Lodz-Ghetto-Coin

Here's more information: http://suite101.com/article/holocau...etto-a311179

When I picked up this coin, I thought it looks like it was in a fire. Maybe it was really used to generate some heat? Certain that this is a genuine coin.

There's no telling the story behind that piece. Maybe it was burned in an attempt to vanish memories, or maybe an accident. Either way, thanks for posting this significantly historical item.

Its a neat coin with lots of history. I must admit I could not tell a fake from a real one - but I know there are a lot of fakes of these out there (http://www.moneta-coins.com/photopo...p?photo=1005 ) - so others who are interested in one - be very careful!

Great that you managed to track down a real one!

Those are some amazing historical coins. I'd love to come across one and pick it up for my collection.

I'm sorry but I have to disappoint you. This is not a geniune coin, quite popular in Poland. I know that all grading services have problem with this coin, but this is a very good fake.

Can you please explain what made you think it's not genuine gumer?

Ma english is not so good, but I will try to explain the differences between fake and orginal coin. See the picture first.

Lodz-Ghetto-Coin

Left coin is fake, right coin is orginal. I marked five main differences between those coins.

1. Fake coin has left cambered letter "G" in GETTO.
2. The first star has five arms. The same star from original coin has only four of them.
3. Circle in digit "9" is rectangular shape. Orginal is round.
4 and 5. Tabs. They are not present in orginal coin.

This coin was stuck with only one pair of stamps, so all coins look the same. Your coin was artificially patinated and damaged to look like from circulation. Compare the shape of fonts in "Der Alteste der Juden in Litzmannstadt" in your coin and the orginal. LG coins and notes is my passion and I've seen a lot of fake coins but this is the best fake for this coin ever made, so it is quite dangerous.
