Are the edges on these cast SUD 8R issues machine milled, hand milled (i.e., hand cut engraver edging) or Plain Edge? What is the normal edge?

colonialjohn : you are talking about the silver ones I suppose (not copper, which seem to be struck)
I was asking myself the same questions, there are a lot of doubts about those coins ... and I think a serious work on those would be more than welcome.
There is currently one on ebay, which is fake, and which has a plain edge with some marks.

I have yet to hold a genuine one ... and I never bought one myself because I prefer to read more about those first (they seem to be pretty risky stuffs, a bit like counterstamps)

Silver Cast Issues. Yes I know the one you are talking about - when I saw the PE on this E-Bay piece it did not feel right? I just bought one from a reputable dealer in Puerto Rico and the edges were hand cut - milled style. XRF Anaysis showed good Ag(90%), Pt (>0.1%) and Au (>0.1%). Some things only years of experience/exposure can teach you properly ... this being one of those situations ... even in KM they indicate: Beware of Fakes ... but give no information on this matter. Still not sure if the Puerto Rico piece is good ... the alloy resembles a good 8R of the period ... another good subject coin study <BG>.

collonialjohn : it would be great if you could post nice pictures of that coin (two faces plus the edge) :)
Actually, if anyone here have this type ... it would be greatly appreciated.

MathieuMa - I asked that seller on E-Bay with the $3,000+ silver cast PCGS piece and he belives its PE? He can't say for sure but recalls its PE. I will just be patient. I may make an inquiry to the Mexican Coin Company soon on these pieces. It seems its another grey area like the regal/PE 1811 Chihuahua cast pieces?

Got a response from Max Keech privately from the Mexican Coin Company who is WOI expert. He believes only hand cut milled edges that are not parallel to one another is the preferred edge. Do we expect hand cut milled edge to be parallel? Of course not - so PE is taboo.
