I love coins, what else can I say specifically American!!
Too the penny problem question, I found a 1974 Lincoln Cent.
The problem is that the 74 is practically unrecognizable while the 19 is pronounced. The same goes for the L I in Liberty and also the in god we trust has a couple of flaws as well . The back seems fine though. Can someone tell me a little about it?,
Thanks Steve

2TICKLASSIC A number of coins a person finds in circulation have been circulated meaning, passed through many hands. With all that handling the coin gets worn out over a number of years. Then you start to see unrecognizable dates and others that wear the coins down or PMD ( which is another story)
Keep reading this site it has a wealth of knowledge.

Hi and

Another more common phenom. with coins is a little
bit of debris, most commonly grease, gets on to the dies
and this causes some of the devices to either be missing
or just visible. The debris/grease takes up some space between
the die and the planchet thus the full strike is not brought up.

Are the devices you mention pushed parallel to the rim. If so it may be coin wrapper damage on the coin. Of course images are a great aid.
