The seller claims in an email to me it it's an occluded gas bubble error that Mike Diamond says is a true error.I'm saying the coin was heated by a fire or some other heat source outside the mint causing a gas bubble hence separating the clad from the copper core.Is there something out there where Mike Diamond says this would be an error? Thanks for any insight. This is the email
.these gas bubbles are called occluded gas bubbles ad ""yes""could have been caused by great heat to the coin in "or "ouside of the mint...possble errors could and occluded bubbles in rare seldom cases, caused to the coin "before" it left the mint forming occluded gas bubbles...look on the coin if the reverse side of the mound is not affected, then the coin most likly did 'not' come into intense heat outside the mint...also the bubble or mound is not flexable but is solid it 'could be in these "'seldom if ever"" very rare occations...be caused by

They exist. This is not what they look like. Yes, Forrest, run.

They meet the strict definition of "error," if not "Mint error," but the implication of added value or rarity is vastly overexaggerated.

Good advice ^

I have a friend that lost his home in a fire, he had a quarter with the width of a dime puffed up on both sides, defintely from a fire. There were also other coins that had melted into a puddle like mixture some still had their designs showing, kind of cool, I tried to buy it from him, to no avail. The coins were in a glass mason jar that had aslo melted into the mix, would've made for a cool paper weight, but as a collectible - nope!

I never saw the coin before, and I would never have declared this a genuine error. The seller is either mistaken or lying. As the other folks have said, it's heat damage.

An occluded gas bubble simply means a bubble trapped inside the coin. The thing is those bubbles do not become visible until the coin is subjected to high heat softening the metal to the point that the expansion of the gas bubble can form a lump on the coin.
