Hello Coin Experts,

I have a 1943 tombac nickel encased in 2 x 2 holder. What is your estimate of its grade and/or value? I see that there are black marks on one side - is this some sort of corrosion? The Victory side seems to have nice two toned colour but of course some of the sheen may be due to the plastic cover. Is this just a standard fare tombac?

Many thanks for your help!

The staining on the obverse is very detracting as is the two tone on the reverse. I paid $10 AUD for a BU example a couple months ago.

these coins are unfortuently not rare and it looks like the kind of coin that would be in the 10 for $2 bin.

Standard fare is about right.A $2 coin.Doesn't mean it's not collectible, just not an investment.

Keep on collecting the beautiful Canadian coinage Retired07

As, the others said, not worth that much but, at least you have a 'Tombac'.
I would guess, it was in a holder of some sort for quite a while re, the toning on the coin.

Thank you for all the feedback and good information. I believe that the coin was in a holder (and still is) for well over 30 years. That is why I am surprised to see the black marks or corrosion on the obverse.

Cheers to all!

no matter the grade, I just like explaining to people that it has Morse Code on it.
