I have had this one in a NNC slab for some time but haven't posted it for everyones opinion on what they thought it would actually grade. I want to add it is in a NNC slab but I didn't buy it from centless (I refuse to support his dealings even if it is a top 100 VAM like this one) I only bought it because it is a VAM-70 and I knew that before I ever purchased it

I'm gonna take a novice shot and say MS-68. Fields look really clean. Just a touch of weakness above the ear, but the breast feathers don't appear to be weak. Is that possible on strike weakness? A slight rim ding on the obverse at 11 o'clock. Beautiful coin!

Tough one, Bryan. I could swear I see wear, or maybe cabinet friction, on the cotton bolls and the back of the eagle's head. It is a fairly weak strike, though.

If we assume it's Mint State (with it in hand, you'd know that better than I), I could maybe go 65 on it. The obverse fields are a little skritchy, as is the cheek. In my opinion the strike alone should keep it from a higher grade.

Coin has subdued luster, maybe some light rub as well.

AU-58, or MS-62 if no rub.

No more than MS-62. I just doesn't make me smile the way a solid Morgan does.

It's tough to tell without being able to turn it in hand, so I am going to have to assume the glass is half empty and say AU-58.

I don't know what NNC called it, probably 65 or 66.

From the pics, I would call it either an au-55/58 or an ms63.

I am hesitant to grade a coin until I can 'cartwheel' the coin in my hand. I look for that eye appealing luster and I look at the focal areas, clarity of strike and for wear. I enjoy the opportunity to grade Morgan dollars and this VAM 70, b1 reverse in my opinion is MS 62. It is the lack of luster in your picture that bothers me and why I give the grade of MS 62.
I hope that it is only the lighting and that the coin is prettier in hand. As you know, A VAM 70 carries a significant premium for this variety.
