Hi guys. The Morgan dollar I bought arrived in the mail today. It is in good condition but it has an "x" or "t" carved behind her hair. Does this mean something or not?

So just a few scratches completely takes away the value?

Indeed scratches, but I am surprised. Would that cause what looks like from the picture to be Unc. Morgan dollar only melt value?

It's damaged... AND cleaned. Plus a common date. I personally would not even pay melt for it.

It is not UNC. I agree that it likely has been polished. A VF coin with this amount of wear shouldn't be shiny. The PMD on top of the cleaning makes it worth melt in my opinion.

By the way to the forum.

I am disappointed. I would have expected a much better coin for 30 dollars.

If it was sold as problem free and the guy won't take a return, you can file a case against him on ebay as well. If you bought it from some other 3rd party, I'd request a refund and hope they agree to it.

we need to know more where did you buy it? ebay? If so list the link to the auction. If from a dealer on line or in a magazine ad then they certainly owe you money back or a much better coin than what was sent to you.
