Hello to all my southern neighbours! I am hoping I can get some help with establishing a value for my small collection of US coins. This is mainly for future trading purposes.

The coins were in my father's collection and I think some possibly his father also and I don't know a lot about them. I am not very good at taking pictures but if someone could give me a range of the value I should be able to grade the coins reasonably well on my own. Or, if someone could point me to an accurate/free online source for valuing the coins.

One Cent: 1848, 1859, 1862, 1875, 1890, 1893, 1900, 1902, 1906, 1907

Three Cent Silver: 1852

Three Cent Nickel: 1865

Seated half dime: 1871

Five Cent: 1898, 1911, 1929, 1938

Ten Cent: 1857, 1891, 1946, 1952

One Dollar: 1879

I also have 2 1972 one dollar coins and 3 half dollars (1965, 1973, 1976). I'm assuming these are all face value minus the 1965 which has some silver content. I really like the design of the eagle landing on the moon!

Hi o-train. The coins you have posted are intriguing and a good start to a collection. However without a grade (aG-3 to MS-70) it is virtually impossible to provide an accurate valuation. There are numerous websites on the internet that provide a "grading guide" for US and world coins. Once you have established a fair grade (I am sure our CCF members can help with that, just provide high resolution pictures or scans) it is time to move towar FMV meaning "fair market value". ebay is a good start but here are some other good websites:

Numismedia.com
Coinstudy.com

Good luck! Don't be shy to ask for any more help.

Here is a good site for pricing:
http://www.numismedia.com/fmv/fmv.shtml
(Notice when selling you may get below the FMV)
Also, for grading this may be helpful: http://www.pcgs.com/photograde/

I second numismedia. ebay completed listings are good too, but like mentioned above grade is everything for determining the actual value range

Thanks for the help. I like the numismedia site so far.

I also have a Shield nickel but it is so worn that almost all details including the date are gone.

One of the two 1859 Indian Head cents I have has VF-20 to VF-30 details on the obverse but the reverse has been obliterated and a small hole drilled through the headdress. It makes me wonder who once may have worn it as a necklace or something similar and the stories it could tell. It's numismatic value has been basically destroyed but it's one of my favourite coins.
