I am fairly new to collecting and recently found this dime. The reverse looks like the column is broken. It the breaks look very clean. Could this possibly be an error? I have attached photos. Thanks for the help.

There is not way the mint's dies could have caused that. Looks like PSD to me.

On the top break I can see where to metal was pushed up by the foreign object.

Something I'm not getting here. The coin is heavily damaged and people are saying they would keep it. It's worth its weight in silver. There are far better coins out there for the date that are not heavily damaged. I'm just not seeing the reason for the interest factor in this.

I see a lot of these and it makes me wonder if they get stuck in the coin counting machines and go round and round or something.

That is damage caused by an old dime bank. A screw was turned on the top of a metal tube to dispense dimes and the screw would sometimes leave a tell-tale circular scratch on the center of the dime at the top of the stack.
