I am pretty sure this one is Korean.

I think it is:

MILITARY TRAINING COMMAND
(Hul Ly On Do Gam)
KM# 449
1 MUN
Series 5
Page 800, 1801-1900 2007 Catalog of World Coins 5th Edition.

I find some of the Korean cast coins confusing, can anyone confirm my tentative id?
Thanks.

Ok, on the reverse I see Military Training Command (top), series 5 (left), and Chon at bottom.
KM 449, yes.
Korean coinage is not too difficult, the reverse elements are pretty straight forward.
There is a mint, series and furnace. The mint and furnace are always distinct, the placements are the only variables. Krause does as good a job as anyone in describing how to identify them.

I am totally not an expert at this. And I now know that this is Korean.
But before reading anything and checking the photo, I thought this was Vietnamese.
Someone told me wide rims indicate Vietnamese coins. Is this right?

Rim width has nothing to do with what country issued the coin. Overall size of the coin can assist sometimes (i.e. Annamese tends to be smaller in general than Chinese, etc.). In the end you can only rely on the inscriptions.
Remember - buy the book before the coin!

That was me, here. And the statement is true only in the context I said it, not as a general guide. Sorry if I gave that impression.

Wider than usual rims on coins with a legend attributable to the Chinese early dynasty indicate a probable later Vietnamese copy, since earlier coins typically have comparatively narrow rims.
