I have a gold Kennedy half dollar, mint 1980 p. it has 960 and 980 stamped on the front. what is this

from your description, sounds like just a normal Kennedy half dollar someone counter-stamped and had gold plated

They are intended to signify a 20th, 25th, etc... anniversary of Kennedy's Election or Assassination. depending on when the ads were in the papers and magazines. It is a novelty coin & worth 50 cents.
By Collectors Society of America $5.99 new 24k gold plated although the plating isn't worth crap. They were never clear on what they signified, they were stamped 1960 1980 or 1985
