Okay, overpaid for the lot. I'm interested in the little cross at the bottom - its got legend left and looks too long for Theodosius. Who knows. Its a nice one. I intend to sell the denarius to offset the price.

Got a nice big byzantine M (my first!), a Salonina Denarius, an unknown cross at the bottom, a worn and holed Scyphate and a couple of junky bronzes. Erk, couldve bought some darn nice stuff for the same price. Oh well. Anyone want a denarius?

That's not a denarius. It's an antoninianus.

Ah man, you know whats bad? When you see the very coin you just bought in the completed listings sold for peanuts. Oh well, at least the guy got a good return, and I got the nice cross (and the nice M).

Antoninianus - double denarius, yes? I suppose thats good!

EDIT: Sorry AN, you responded whilst I responded! Thats the coin I bought the lot to get at. I'm not sure what it is - might be a Theodosius II, could be something better like Flacilla, etc. It would be awesome if it was vandal.

A "Denarius" in the sense of the Antoninianus being originally tariffed at 2 Denarii but in reality being worth less.

Yes, alas, Salonina's Antoninianii do not often sell for much.

I recognise the bright blue backround, used by a seller from Cyprus.

I just love 'rat' (poor condition) ancient coins like these.
Barely identifiable, but that is where the fun and challenge of fully identiying comes from,
provided you can get then at 'rat' prices.

Such pieces provide an excellent way of learning about, and identifying, ancient coins for yourself.

Congratulations on spotting what may be a Vandalic piece. I haven't got one.

I'm also curious as to what that cross coin is. From the photo alone, it looks like an imitative.

That little cross coin is quite curious. My first impression was a Vandal imitative. It is certainly very nice indeed.
