Hi, I just read that the beautiful Gold Buffalo coin's long-awaited reverse-proof variant will appear this august: http://coins.about.com/b/2013/07/13...nnounced.htmThe looks will be identical to this standard Gold Buffalo: http://www.primevalues.org/hard-ass...old-coin.htm only that the frosted and mirrored parts will be reversed... this reminded me of the previous 2006 Golden Eagle coin. Mintage is unlimited - gives me hope to grab one as soon as gold falls even lower (I love the coin and just don't have the right amount of money right now).

I'd love to have a Gold Buffalo but they're so damned expensive...
It's like £1,000 for one relatively small coin. Too much, got to wait a few years to see if the price comes down some.

If an intending buyer gets lucky in the future, they may come down to a bit closer to the bullion price.
I went the other way: I just bought an MS61 St. Gaudens Double Eagle instead, just because I so like the design! The after market for these has been very well defined for decades.

I want that this RP Buff and put me down at the front of the list for one in August.
This is the kind of item that will hold its value and as PMs bump around, of that I am sure.
I also tend to agree with those who think that the proof 2013 Buff makes low numbers.
Well done US Mint, please continue to make expensive, high end unique items. The more they do items like this, the more items will hold their value.

Good luck thinking you are gonna get one of these cheaper, these will be a hot commodity like the 2009 high relief.

I just love that 2009 high relief. This one is always going to have significant numismatic value. Twenty years ago, I just had to get a 1937 gold proof British Five Pounds. 1.177 AGW. 5,501 minted. The one Sovereign of 1937 has a far greater proportion of numismatic value in it. I am still looking for one, (as a single), but they are much harder to find.

The proof case on those you can tell is high quality I like it like a nice Rolex.... That book on the watch and nice box sells the watch as much as the watch itself, same with that gem of a coin eh.... I need to figure out how to get my greasy paws on one of those bad boys next, the capsule and box not the coin of course lol.... Back to the grind stone....

Demarco Bishopp: it is quite a big coin. 1 oz gold coin is quite large. Of course, it's smaller than a 1 oz silver coin...

@Hawk, there are places/seller selling those box & capsule (after being graded by TPG.... I agree that this will be a hot item like 2009 UHR. I still regretting for not buying the raw coin when first release (around $1200) and when two was on the market locally for around $1800, now it's going for around $2500+. Good luck finding it cheaper after the release period. Even with higher mintage than the 2009 UHR (115,178 for 2009 UHR) since it's unlimited for 1 month, I would expect it to hold its value.

The only drawback I see is needing to order the regular one as well. At least I have a week to find $3300. I have not had much luck in picking winners. I hope this one holds up.

"@Hawk, there are places/seller selling those box & capsule (after being graded by TPG...." Lol I was being goofy meaning I want the entire package coin case and all, I ujst would only ever get my greasy paws on the capsule and case. I just would not ever touch the actual coin or remove it from capsule as most with any common sense would do the same. To risk a micro scratch on such a piece is nothing short of foolish IMO....

So at $1640 how many of these are going to sell? That's a $350 premium to spot. I was hoping for $15? and the regular proof to also come down to $15?. Oh well.

This is going to be a super hit with collectors and the demand is going to be huge after the ordering period from the Mint on these closes. I think you buy 2-4 of these if you were looking to either invest or flip.

yup, I agree it will be a hit but I'm starting to believe the regular proof is going to do well down the road with very low mintage numbers. I might just have to buy one of each and see which does better.
