My friend has asked me to sell the above coin for him. I have had litle luck searching for realistic prices and am wondering if you lot can help we work out a rough price range. I cannot post pictures at the moment, just looking for rough guide.

Sorry, not sure what I thought I saw to quote the 1873-P. Numismaster pricing for an 1877-P in MS-63 is around $2,200.

Don't know if a 1873P is relevant, please fill me in if I'm missing something? Thanks Fuzzy I have never seen such a PCGS link. I decided to whip out the camera and managed to get pictures but theyre pretty average:

That was the page for the coin in question. Here is the link to the main page for the PCGS Coin Price Guide

I am no Trade dollar expert but the reverse of that coin looks very strong and likely all of MS64 and maybe even MS65. The obverse really brings this one down to earth with its weak strike and field abrasions. Still seems to be a good 63 though. That's a $1600 coin (wholesale) and should bring close to $2000 retail. Since I am not into this series, I can't say whether this particular coin should sell for closer to retail or wholesale.

The obverse seems to be a pretty weak strike but I've read that is pretty common.

If the head and top stars were struck better, that would grade MS-64 or possibly MS-65. BTW how do we quote or include an earlier post in a response? I've participated in many forums over the years, and this one has to have one of the most illogical formats that I have ever seen.

Here are instructions, and I believe it was not made too easy (requires effort) so it is not abused. http://www.coincommunity.com/forum/faq.asp#quote

I copy and paste the text I want to quote into the replying text box then highlight it and click the "insert image" button. Then I just replace the word "img" with the word "quote."

Quote: ? Just hit the insert quote button... You have to use the reply to thread link to get the buttons to come up. If you use the box at the bottom they wont be there
