Here is my latest Morgan dollar pickup. I have always wanted one of these and couldn't say no for the price.

I certainly hope you didn't pay much....This one is a fake, Carson City did not mint a coin in 1887.

I know it's fake, only cost me $5.00. Always wanted a fake coin and could not resist.

I was thinking of offering it to the person on this site who has the black cabinet website. I don't remember the poster but I'm sure someone might be able to point me in the right direction.

Thanks SsuperDdave I sent him a PM. I offered to send him the coin if he would make a $5.00 donation to Coin Community because that is what I paid for it. I hope that's not against the rules. I have another one that is similar so I parting with this one isn't a problem.

I don't see a problem with your request, and I suspect Steve won't either.

Thanks SSDave I was hoping that wouldn't be a problem. I figured I could contribute a little to the community both ways and I am sure Dave would like another addition to his collection.

I meant Steve wouldn't mind the addition.

I would have bought it for $5. I maintain a collection of fake coins for close examination, for my own education. It's a lot harder to spot a fake, if you don't know what you are looking for.
From the pictures alone, the weak legends on this one would raise my suspicions.

Perhaps this is a genuine Mint product such as the five 1913 Liberty head nickels. Ed ANA LM-3175

My point was that the 1913 Liberty head nickels are just as much a fantasy coin as this 1887 CC. How the government has allowed the five 1913 Liberty head nickels to remain in private hands is beyond me since they were obviously not legally manufactured. Ed ANA LM-3175
