die cracks, corrosion, polishing ?

Wow, that die had a hard life. Heavy polishing to remove rust, and they didn't get it all?

to me it looks like grease with debris on the fields of the die. Was the coin sticky when you found it? Or is this the original surface of the coin?

Debris can prevent the coin field from looking normal. I'm thinking it is debris on the die if the area affected is incuse?

The areas in question are mostly raised not incused. John1

If it is raised, then it would be a die issue. I asked the question because a few years back I found a coin that had something similar to yours, but different. I believe mine was damaged and some grease held the filings in place.
