Here is an example of the 2 attributes I look for when determining if a 1965 cent is blunt or pointed. The first of course is the end of the horizontal bar of the 5. It can be a bit tricky as most of the ends are angled to some extent. If you also factor in that PMD can cause the end to appear to be more pointed then it actually is. That is why I always check the top part of the loop of the 5. For the "pointed 5" variety it will come more to a point then for the "blunt 5" which will be more horizontal. Have a look at the pic below to see what I mean. It helps me greatly to use both the attributes to determine if a pic of a coin is actually a pointed 5. I hope it will help a few members out if they have questions on a particular coin. The left side of picture is the pointed 5 coin. Report this Post to the Staff
