Ok, here is another one for your enjoyment. I have 100 Alaska Denali Quarters and the first handful has produced this coin;

2012-Alaska-Denali-E-Pluribus-Unum-Doubling?

So far, this one is by far the clearest image I can get. It is also one of the better chances at a doubled die that my son and I have found in about 2 weeks of hunting for errors.

Maybe this roll I can get a Gem BU roll and send the "normal" ones back to the bank.

I would email that pic to James Wiles at VarietyVista.com He will tell you for sure, he may request more pics of the entire coin too.

I went through a bag ($25.00) of the Hawaii Volcanoes and I have a few promising ones. I have been super busy as of late and I simply don't have the time to sit at the tables and mess with the microscope, microscope camera, laptop and and lighting to get the pictures absolutely perfect - at least not right now.

The "U's" and the "M" are forward - North if you will, about 1/3 of the way if not more. The "N" is the same, but with the lower impression, and the way the "N" is designed, its less impressive. These coins are brand new out of the bag, and are super shiny. It requires alot of manipulation per coin to get the lighting right for just one single picture that shows any clarity.

One additional mention. The bottom of the letters, or the feet per se. The coin is showing something that resembles stacked strikes, almost like 2 bricks laid on top of each other.
It does not look like the stereotypicall Mechanical Doubling, like a bulldozer plowing of the coin edge, leaving that potential step or high angle.

I like to send coins in for grading and mint erors. The cost is affordable when I choose a service and do not mind waiting 20 or so days for the coin(s) to come back. I shoot as many good raw pics of each coin as I can, categorize them and then send the coins in and hope for the best.

These may not be the Humdinger of Doubled Dies, But at the very least they are GREAT conversational pieces at coin shows and in the Blog I operate.

When I found these, I was like, WOW, nice, thats a bit of a stretch for Machine Doubling.

I have to REMIND myself, that from 1990 onward, the way the mint presses coins is different, and it "should" lower the amount of doubled dies and other issues. But things like this pop up and we all have to ask questions of what they are - when the issue deviates far from the norm.

As soon as I can, I will add some better<?> Pics of the potential error coins, if not on here a link to a post I will do about them on my web server where I can have over a 100K pic and show the clarity and size required for these coins, in particular.
