1972 P 1-DO? - Coin Community Forum

rpmes Valued Member United States 388 Posts	Posted 08/18/2013 8:32 pm Hello, I have been searching rolls of 1972 pennies and have come across a few that have an interesting mark on the tail of the 2. I was trying to match it up with one on coppercoins but didn't see one that was exactly the same. There also seems to be a point protruding from the lower part of the top of the 2. It's faint, but noticeable on all of them. I was wondering if this is a listed coin and I'm just not seeing it right, or if it may be a new DO or maybe they're just nothing. rpmes Valued Member United States 388 Posts	Posted 08/18/2013 10:58 pm I believe there is something extra stamped on the coins, These are 5 different coins pictured. I have 10 so far. Could be a die chip or deterioration? Anyone? Report this Post to the Staff

John1 Moderator United States 56855 Posts	Posted 08/19/2013 06:55 am Check 012 to see if your coin matches. I don't think your coin is a DDO,looks like a die gouge. The "LIB" looks to match the CC photo, if the NE-SW die scratches I can see near the rim below "LIBERTY" in your picture indeed extend northward (your photo is a little darkish) next to the "L" as in the CC photo. rpmes Valued Member United States 388 Posts	Posted 08/19/2013 1:14 pm I can see some microscopic die scratches. They are not the same as 011. No matter where I could see them, they all seemed to travel from the rim towards the center of the coin. And they are the same on every coin. More photos coming of the IN and God. Sudz Pillar of the Community United States 1572 Posts	Posted 08/19/2013 3:00 pm Sadly, based on the last photos, I'm guessing it is Master Die doubling...
