I have a coin but I do not know anything about it. I am hoping someone could provide me some information about the coin to satisfy my curiosity. I am sorry if I did post this in the wrong section.

Hello and welcome.

I don't know if one of the other moderators moved it for you, but "Tokens and medals" is where it belongs, because technically it's not a "coin". It's a medal.

Usually, googling the exact phrase which appears on an unknown medal gives you some info, but in this case, googling "Jimmy E Carter inaugural" returns you... this exact CCF thread, and nothing else (wow, Google's quick at indexing this site).

Suffice to say, it's not an official government medal. Presumably sold as a souvenir at around the time of the inauguration.

it's not an official medal. The ones in my google search had Carter facing to the observer's left, and the presidential seal was on the reverse.

My google search turned up pages, with another CCF thread as #4. This one was not listed.

Most are trying to forget the time he was in office and the job he did as pres. Seen a poll recently said he is climbing on the list of worst job of being president! So if he reaches the top it might be worth more!

Carter was the first president elected after Watergate. It may be hard for some to remember now, but Carter's inauguration brought a wave of hope and optimism to the nation. That, combined with a colorful personality, resulted in a torrent of Carter souvenirs, which I can testify to seeing sold everywhere on the streets of Washington on a childhood trip. Like this medallion, they all emphasized his smile!
