Today I was looking over my Kennedy halves. So here I see this one that looked orange! I kind of got scared and though something was wrong with the coin. So once I had the coin in hands, I was like . The tone on it is very cool. But I just want to know why only this one? The 20+ other ones are all stored the same way.

It's very possible this coin was on the end of a roll in which the paper was touching it...

Must have had something harsh happen to it, nickel's pretty tough.

@Dave Sometimes toning forms while the coin is in those mint bags, not just rolls.

There are very wide and fuzzy lines between toning, patination and tarnishing.
Which is which, has a lot to do with your own preferences, but most of us know what poor or excellent eye appeal is. It's just a matter of degree.

Change the storage method immediately, if you like the current toning, so that you can stabilise it. Toning can be very delicate and unstable. It's somewhat analagous the the storage of some fine wines, which can go past their 'best', with the same type of continued storage.

I changed the flip right away. I like the tone but don't want it ruined.

I forgot to say, I had this Kennedy for only 3 months. I had other ones there for years and never toned.
I think the polish was bad or something.

*Also, I didn't use any Chemicals or create the tone. It's 100% real.*

The coin didn't have the toning when you got it and this all happened in 3 months?

I can't imagine what could affect nickel to that extent in that short of a time. I've found clad coins while snorkeling in salt water that still were shiny.

Like I said though, it could have been the polish they have used. Perhaps, if I started getting coins graded by PCGS, would it be smart to have that one graded?

Also, I don't think it's a Deep camo. The second picture made it look like one but it doesn't have that dark effect unless you tilt it sideways.

Now, my ike is like 8 years old. I would leave him out exposed to the air. I didn't have 2x2's and I didn't know much about coins.
