Same variety so "apples vs apples". What grade would you assign to both and if priced the same, which would you buy? Please give reasoning for your choice. Thanks in advance for playing.

The lighter of the two is (barely) the technically-superior coin. But for my money (assuming neither is a more-desirable variety), the darker of the two is the one I buy ten times out of ten, for what I consider clearly superior eye appeal.

As regards grade, I'd believe VF20 or 25 for either. I found the lighter one on Heritage, and disagree slightly with the grade shown.

I'm no good at grading these, but with ssuperdave on the darker one. Better eye appeal and the design looks sharper IMHO.

Edit: Forgot the

The one on the left has a stronger rim, the one on the right has been TPG slabbed.

I would take the one on the left over the right.

Personally I like the one on the right better. The other one has a scratch on the reverse that I find a bit distracting. I think that either coin would be a great addition!
Rest in Peace

I would choose yours over the slabbed coin. The slabbed coin looks like it may suffer from "questionable color"

I like both but if I was spending my own money no question the one in the right. The scratch on the darker coin reverse and less detail on the devices makes it a no brainer to me. I think the coin will darken somewhat over time and look quite nicer in the future.

Left (darker coin) VF20
Right (lighter coin) VF30

I would rather buy the one on the right. The left one seems to show more wear on Liberty herself and the Eagle. The left one has marks between the "L" in Liberty and the star at 11 o'clock on the obverse, and the scratch near the Eagle on the reverse.

All that said they are both beautiful, and I wouldn't be unhappy with either of them in my set.

The one on the left is more worn down than the one on the right but, I still find the right one more appealing.

Thank you all for your responses. I posted the darker half in the grading section soon after joining the forum. The 3 responders offering a grade were 10, 8 and VG. My opinion was at the least VF-20.

@ SsuperDdave - I agree with your 2nd line. I felt that if the lighter one was PCGS VF-30 w/CAC bean2-1795-Halfs---Please-Grade-And-Choose
and if this was VF-20 w/CAC, that mine was VF-25 (without CAC due to previously mentioned imperfections).

Any additional thoughts ? . . .

Left one VF-30. Right one VF20-VF25. I'd definitely pick the left one.
