Doing a little shopping and noticed there are PCGS MS70 ASE's being offered for about the same as PCGS MS63 Morgan commons. Both are around the $58-$60 range. So that got me to thinking which has a better chance of appreciating. Any thoughts from those that have been here longer then me and witnessed what happened when silver fell to $10 and ran to $40?

Some say slabbed bullion is a nonsense. That being said I buy all the new world issues as they release in PCGS MS70 so what do I know. As for the Morgans I would try to stay above the MS64 level on common dates. They are readily available on ebay for around $65-$80.

Yes, I will say, slabbed bullion IS nonsense! Buy common Morgans at MS65 or above.

Between the two the MS70 probably have a better chance of appreciating. The MS 63 common morgans are very common and theyve already had 100 plus years to appreciate and really havent gotten a whole lot over their melt value in that time.

Really flip a coin with the given choices. It could go either way

I always thought the current craze in MS70 was pretty unstable, but what do I know?

Canadian grades always try their best to be as picky as American ones, but they're usually more relaxed (marvel at my wondrous labeled-in-America "F-16" IHC!). I assume it comes from having only one very reliable TPG (ICCS) - MS-65 is basically their top grade, because the market is too small for more than one MS-66/67 classic coin, so these don't even make it into the price catalogs! All the enthusiasm for MS-70s is whatever we can rub off of the American market.

other than pandas - slabbed bullion is a waste of money IMO
better buy high grade Morgans, of course if you are up to them because you like them
if you are up to metal - go with bullion

Yep, I'd lean toward high grade Morgans too.

And slabbing bullion is a waste except for proof coins. This coming from a guy building a set of MS69 ASEs.

Novelty bullion = Beanie Babies.
Slabbed novelty bullion = Beanie Baby with a tag protector.
Go with the real coin, tpg22.

Go with naked bullion. Slabbed bullion is a joke. Even PCGS used to be against the "perfect 70" grading of moderns, until they saw how much money/business they were losing to NGC. They changed their tune pretty fast.

If you have money to spend, buy plain old basic bullion. That means unslabbed silver Eagles and Maples and 90 percent. Get the most silver for your money.

Hey Newibie I see the tools on ebay forking out huge premiums for 70z so if they gonna pay those high rates and you find them for a bit less, cant see how it will not be profitbale in long run....

Too each their own eh, but I say 63 Morgan all day. History and rareity low numbers in better shape, verses mass production even though limited 70z out there....

Thanks to all. Interesting arguments on both sides. Also interesting that some collect 70 ASE's but recommend not to buy any. I have 10+ 63's, 64's in both Peace and Morgans. Maybe I will add a few 65's.

I would say buy some of both. It never hurts to diversify your collection. I just started collecting again and have Morgan's, peace, maples, ASE's, and some other silver currency.
