Hello all. I posted this cent a while back. I took it in today to my local professionals and had one if the guys examine it. He says there is a die crack above the 't' in states and as far as the missing copper coating, he was unsure. He referred me to the company error expert, who is on vacation this week for further evaluation. He seems to think the coin warrants more looking into. The company is one of the biggest dealers in Michigan so I'm gonna trust them on this one. I have learned that posting pics can be very tough even with magnification and sometimes things appear due to lighting, that aren't there. I tried to take new pics. Tell me what ya think. Thanks for all your advice as always.
Looks like a stripped copper plating coin. The bumps that are there are left over from the plating. I saw a Youtube video about how the coat over the copper plating adding a zinc layer. On a real missing plating cent the surface is a lot smoother.
Coop is right about real non-plated cents having a smooth surface. The entire surface of your coin has han "etched" appearance. One problem with authenticating non-plated cents is that since the zinc is very reactive if the coin isn't Unc it can be hard to tell if it is a real one where the zinc is reacting, or if it is a coin that has had the plating stripped.
