Scored A Bust Dime... Or What's Left Of One!

cheezyfryes Valued Member United States 359 Posts	Posted 08/24/2013 9:27 pm My daughter and I made a trip to our LCS and dug through the owner's "bargain box". In the bottom was this find: I know it's toasty, but I got it for only $2. We didn't have a Bust Dime in our US Type collection so it's a hole filler for now. Question: Is this a Type I or Type II? The year is completely unreadable, but I think it ends in a "3" or an "8". I'm having a hard time telling if these are the large or small dentils (from the few dentils that are left!). BH1964 Bedrock of the Community United States 10982 Posts	Posted 08/25/2013 02:29 am It looks like a Type 2 based on the tight dentil pattern at obverse 4:00. There is a diameter difference with the Type 1 being 19.0 and the Type 2 being 18.5. You could measure it to confirm. Glad to hear your and your daughter are collectors! I put it into a standard dime 2x2 flip (17.9mm) and it is barely larger than the mylar opening. Whether it's 0.6mm or 1.1mm bigger is too detailed for the naked eye. Report this Post to the Staff
