Hey,
I bought this coin off of the bay a few days ago based on some questionable photographs. From what I could tell the coin looked fine. After examining it tonight I noticed that the letters od w are nearly gone. The spot where they should be is a bit raised. I looked through most of the popular VAMS for an 87 P but couldn't find anything, so I thought I would ask the community. I've been lurking here for a while soaking in everything I can. Thanks for your help.

It almost looks like it was caused by a Grease Filled Die, but I don't recall seeing one on a Morgan dollar. Hope someone else can help with this question

I know that the 21 D VAM 1A2 Morgan has a grease filled s in trust, and I think there is another one that has a missing e in we, but nothing for this particular year.

It's a partial Grease Fill. Not uncommon.

I came across an 1888 (P) that looked exactly like that. I also suspected that it must have been grease I the die. Funny thing is, it was those exact same letters. There must be something special about that particular area of the reverse.
