Im not new to the coin collecting but am new to this, just picked up a 1859-o Seated dollar Ngc graded g-4 and was wondering if I wasted my time with such a low grade coin that I should have just waited for a higher grade. I also grabbed an 1877-s Trade dollar in vf-35 also Ngc which will bump my filler out in my 7070. Any way just wanted to see yells thoughts on the low grade coins

I don't think anyone should be looked down upon for having a collection no matter what condition it's in. The concept of collecting is to learn and share, heck we don't all have million dollar budgets, and if a coin fits into your collection and you like it, who cares what anyone else says about it! I have a few ugly coins and low grade examples in my own collections - but at least I have them!

Next up are going to be some pretty low grade early Large and Half Cents - because that's what I can afford to get, would I like to have problem free EF examples or better? Sure would, but 1793 Chain cents don't come cheap even in poor or fair grades, AG3 through VG10 are getting to be the cost of a new car in some cases.

At least you are making sure you are getting genuine pieces, there are a lot of people that might be easily tempted by a higher grade coin like your Seated dollar, that may end up counterfeit, by getting a graded slabbed one you at least have a guarantee and a basis to set a price on it that most will agree on.

You've come to the right place, kick back and stay a while. Nuking you a warm welcome as I type.

Nothing to eat, though. The fridge carpped out after we started using it to store Bit coins.
