Are there any types of coins that you prefer circulated to uncirculated? Note: I am not talking about prefering circulated coins due to cost, I am talking about due to appearance/eye appeal.

I think that bust coins, most notable quarters and halves look best in F-XF condition. I also like the way Seated Liberty dollars and 20 cent pieces look in average circulated condition. Something about these coins in UNC condition just looks unnatural to me.

Am I crazy, or does anyone else agree with me?

I like them just fine if in circulated condition but if it's well preserved then even better. And of course some very nice toning and coloration is always a plus

For silver coins, I appreciate the appearance of a proof, but otherwise I prefer the appearance of uncleaned circulated coins. White color does nothing for me other than make the details harder to make out. For copper and gold, I could go either way.

I also love well-circulated merc and walkers. In those series I love the UNC ones a bit more, so I didn't include them on my first list. I am currently working on mercs and walkers with the newer dates UNC and the older dates circulated.

I agree with tnwalker; I'd take three crusty VF bust halves over a single AU/UNC any day.

I agree that Bust Coinage, specially halves look great with wear. The devices seem to be highlighted by the wear. Mike

I really like silver coins with tarnished crevices. It really brings out the design.

Barber coins. Just got a Barber dime today from Madspec, and it looks great in circulated condition.
