Most of the coins from the early 1800's are absolutely beautiful as circulated coins. If those coins could talk it would be amazing to hear of their journeys and who held them at one time or another. Super Daves Bust Halves are outstanding examples of what I am talking about! How could you not want to own such silver and dream of its trip to your collection? Of course the fact that unc.s or proofs are so costly most cannot afford them may hold some bearing on my decision. The coins from earlier days were workhorses in their time and after changing hands, perhaps thousands of times, and still being a work of art amazes me. Now with modern day coins I am just the opposite as most of my life they were affordable in uncirculated or proof condition so I collected such coins. If we were to go on back in time (earlier than 1800) the mystic surrounding ancient coins is overwhelming and to hold a coin of any grade is a trip back in time and history regardless of country of origin!

I agree with the Barber coins...not matter how worn they are they still have a regal and appealing look to them.

An early busty with circulated cameo, cracks, laps, and Cuds are pretty jazzy in my book. Those "blast white blazing PQ" or "stunning album toned target effect with underlying mint luster" coins tell me that the once crusty busty has been dipped and scrubbed, then baked in a potato with DDTT and pyridine to hide the hairlines. IMO, it's like my 90 yr. old great-grandmother getting a "BUST" job and having her lips botoxed.

I vote for Bust halves and quarters. A nice naturally toned circulated example just looks like a relic of the past.
