The only thing that wasn't described properly was "SuperRare". I didn't see a claim anywhere to this being the DDO (doubled die obverse). The seller stated "doubled date". The date is doubled, just the worthless type of doubling. It is a little misleading with the whole "super rare" thing. But even that isn't untrue. Considering that Machine Doubling happens during the striking process, technically, there isn't another coin "exactly" like this one. However, there are probably tons that are very, very similar. I really hate it you aren't getting what you thought. I would be angry also. Nevertheless, you should have done your homework before buying. There are millions of sneaky people out there trying to take advantage of people. Again, I really hate it the coin isn't what you expected, but you have to know what you are buying. Also, weight has nothing to do with being a doubled die. Please don't take this the wrong way. I know it may not seem like it but I am on your side. |

Dang, that sounds harsh but I promise I didn't mean it that way. Just trying to stress that you need to know what you are buying. Please don't take offense.

Check the images on varity vista when you get your coin. Then you will see the area doubled is the upper portion on the doubled die area of the date.

got the coin today and I'm not too happy.... seems the obverse is not the coin in the picture... I don't see any doubling and there are scratches on the coin that aren't on the listing... I tried to take pictures and they never came out clear...
I have a canon sd630 and a nikon koolpix s6400.. if anyone knows how to work the settings to take good coin pictures I would really appreciate some help.. PEACE...

This actually is a god thing. If it is not the coin in the pic, you can complain, show proof using the pics and get your money back.

since I couldn't get clear pics I just ate the price and left feedback.... the coin looked switched but since I couldn't prove it with pictures, I just decided to play nice and hopefully karma will reward me.... I'm going to concentrate on my graded collection and leave raw coins on ebay alone for awhile until I can gain more knowledge before I bid... I truly appreciate all the help I've gotten on this subject and look forward to getting my camera skills on point so I can share what coins I do have with all of you.... PEACE... |

While sellers ABSOLUTELY have a responsibility to sell what they represent, it's also important to remember that buyers have responsibility too- to educate one's self!
I say this because not a week goes by that I don't get an uneducated buyer screaming foul because they don't understand what they just bought.
With that said- if seller send a coin different than in the photos, you have every right to call him on it.
In the end, I really like your decision to educate yourself further before throwing real money at raw coins. Slabbed coins offer great protection for the collector who doesn't have years and years in.

PS- you'll probably need a macro lens for your camera- I found out the same thing with my new Cannon DSLR. Don't fret- they're not terribly expensive and very easy to use!

thanks LnDV... I think the slabbed coins are a good idea too.... I just don't feel like a "collector" with the modern coins like I do with the pre 65's.. I was looking at the slabbed Walking Liberty halves and I could afford some of the MS and maybe a few PR but the older they get the more they are and that's a bit of a turn off because I like to start out at the beginning of a series.. I'm find my way though that I have no doubt about..... the camera thing shouldn't be too hard either. I found my LED magnifier so I will try to take some clear pictures with that this weekend... hopefully they turn out nice and I can show this obverse with specks on it that weren't in the listing... Thanks to everyone that replied to this post... I might have forgotten to thank people individually but I don't want to leave anyone out or anyone to feel unappreciated for their contribution.... I have some ways to go before I can buy, sell or trade on the site from what I understand but I am really looking forward to dealing with people here instead of ebay.... I would feel much better knowing that someone is using it for something other than to rip people.... PEACE |
