Great photos. Where are you positioning your lights, and what kind of lights are you using? There is no way those are freehand, you're using a copystand, right? All in all, pretty dang good for a first shot.
BTW, 65 and 64+.

In my opinion..... Your first attempt at taking pictures ... Came out better than mine do ....and I have many attempts. Looks like a couple of nice looking walkers.

Thanks for all of the comments.
They are free hand, outside. I picked up the glare when the sun came out. Maybe it's cheating but I did use software to edit the final uploaded photo. I had to do a little work on the contrast.

Nice shots for freehand.
Canon EOS DIGITAL REBEL XSi | 55mm F5.6 1/320 ISO200
Now go buy a macro lens. :)

If I really get into this photo thing I will be asking Santa for a Canon 100mm f/2.8L IS Macro lens. Will that do the trick FadeToBlack?

That will more than do the trick. As a way of perhaps lessening the pain somewhat, have Santa perhaps do a little shopping at the usual photographic suspects (Adorama, B&H, 42nd Street Photo, KEH, Fred Miranda) for used lenses; each are places I can recommend as to reputability (Fred Miranda is a forum, not a retailer, with a high-volume sales section). Here's the problem: A camera/lens combination that good deserves the extra effort to maximize its' capabilities. Done right, you're going to find yourself becoming a photography weenie like the rest of us.

Thanks for the idea SsuperDave. Any money saved will mean more coins to photograph. I only wish I had bought the 7D I was looking at a few years back when I was taking 1000's of pictures of my kids playing baseball.

The 7D was a nice camera; it provides the sensor being used on the current Canon Rebel series. Your XSi (I assume FadeToBlack mined your EXIF data) is a model near and dear to me, one which I used to great effect for quite a while. Excellent camera, and you're getting great results from the 18-55.
Just in case you're possibly considering the competing macro lenses in that size from other makers: each are very capable lenses on their own and optically every bit as good as the Canon for our application. However, the Canon is the only lens whose body does not extend as it focuses, and you'll find this problematic from a lighting standpoint.

That tamron is what I use. It's good, but there is better out there. Great bang for your buck with the 272E though.

Canon rebates are back. Looks like the 100mm f/2.8L IS Macro lens has a $150 rebate. That takes it down from $1049 to $899. I think that is a fair price for a great lens. Deal lasts until 1/4/14. Now I just have to find a local store that has one in stock.
