Great photos, I finally get to see a vintage! I'm starting to like it. It has a lot of history behind it, being the back cover of action comics and drawn by Joe Shuster. I just feel I need a better camera! The iPhone 4s just doesn't cut it haha.

There was four completed ebay auctions yesterday, Oct. 15, for the gold Superman coin. Three of them were below $2000: $1995 $1881 $1920 One was just over $2000: $2065. They are in Canadian Dollars.

Would be interesting to see an update of the Superman coin chart by curse9... I believe that the coin is at a crucial point of either bouncing off the $2000 level to the upside or breaking down below it, in which case we could very well see near issue prices someday soon...
Just speculating...

^Near issue prices? Not about to happen! That's like saying you'll see the 5 coin penny set near issue prices haha.

It's interesting to see that Gatewest now has a "limited quantity" of the gold Superman for $2,400.00 - Phone orders only. I guess there is still a demand for this often mocked coin.

i believe that almost all of the coins that were purchased to be flipped, or sold through dealers has been completed. there were a few people who purchased with plans of keeping it until they saw what it was now worth, so they too sold..i believe the majority of the coins are in the hands of people who plan on keeping them for some time,,the price will level out as we are seeing now, and as they dry up, the price will slowly rise again, when it gets high enough those who planned on keeping it for along time may feel the need to sell them..you may get them a little lower than the going price now, but never will it be anywhere close to issue price..

Ya I don't see them ever at issue again lol, heck I would even buy another one around the $1000 range just to complete 2 sets, since I have 2 of everything else except the gold coin..just one of those. I dont think you will see $1000 either , maybe $1500 for a short while...maybe. Then a slow increase upward over time.

Well, I would need to see the update of the chart that curse9 posted, but since there were a few closes below $2000, it appears the average has recently dropped. IF the average breaks below $2000, note that the next line of support, however weak, is about $1725. IF that gives away, then the next level of support (strong) is $1000. That is close to issue price (about $850 if tax is factored in). Anyway, that's how I read curse9's chart. There is also a possibility of an upside, of course... if the average breaks $2500 to the upside, that would result in much higher values....$3000+ Here is the chart, for those who missed it: https://goccf.com/t/157382&whichpage=55Anything can happen, folks. The 5-coin penny set escalated in value, yet the glass butterfly, that many of us raved about months ago, is now selling at around issue price, isn't it?...

My local post office has no Superman coins left. The woman behind the counter said people had come in specifically to ask about them, which suggests to me the coins will have staying power, as these customers are not coin people but rather Superman fans. I think they'll hold their value, at least over Christmas.
When I told the PO people what some of the coins were going for now they were a might irked they hadn't bought any themselves. Which begs a question: does the Post Office have any restriction on what coins their employees can purchase? A coin-savvy employee with first crack at coins could grab "the good stuff" before it ever hits the display shelves.

Not really related, but it continues the theme of comics/books/movies on the coins: Perth Mint just released: Doctor Who 50TH ANNIVERSARY 2013 1/2OZ SILVER PROOF ELEVEN-COIN SET **11 half oz silver coins set **mintage 3.000 only (I feel, later, they will sell single coins too) This makes set more impressive, than our Superman - we have 7 coins in total and only the gold is "rare" But all this continues the trend to put "whatever" on the coins....hope, the fans will be happy.

I find the Spiderman coin in tin a better offering, 1 oz silver & 5,000 TOTAL mintage. Perth Mint really messed up minting earlier made Kookaburra's, up to mintage total allowed. This has turned off a lot of collectors. 3,000 mintage but you never know what complete total will be after offering these coins individually. Dr Who has only cult following in US & Spiderman is very mainstream.

FYI, If someone isn't following the Spiderman coin thread under World Commemoratives, I received my order from APMEX today and they are very high quality & pics on Downies & APMEX show a pic with reverse showing flaws-bad pic or bad coin. The 3 I received today would grade PF 69 or 70 with PCGS or NGC. Very happy I ordered.

Its now been a little more than 5 weeks since the Superman release started selling and getting attention...over 65,000 coins have hit the market and the first big wave of in hand coins is now receding........ the second wave is fast approaching and more gold Superman will hit the auctions as the regular non collecting buyers start finally to wake up to the fact that what was 750 a month ago now costs 2,000 or more......eBay has sold 5% of the golds and the dealers have probably sold another 25% which leaves 70% left in the hands of dealers and collectors and 1/2 of those will keep them...so my guess is that 35% of the 2k mintage will be sold via ebay and other secondary markets ..thats 750 gold coins...for sale over xmas....we will see 3000.00 gold superman by the new year on a regular basis.......excellent buy at 2000.......
