You only need 500 or so wealthy or well heeled collector types. Remember a out 1% of the richest people control 20% of US money. So if wealthy people have dealers looking for these coins anything can happen. Look at prices for the 1948 dollar. There's more of them than gold superman coins. Already there's a modern day coin for bids in a slab that was fast! I wondered when it would happen. I wonder if it will increase in price?

The Gold coins will not be bought for gifts at Christmas except maybe by a few rich collectors /families etc , but the 1/4 oz coin will be and I am sure a lot of the then and now have been bought for gifts already. Maybe the 1/2 modern day superman ,but once you get over the $80 to $100 range I don't think most people will buy coins for gifts except for the families that have the more hardcore coin collector types in the family.

lol I have this clueless dealer around here and they always try to screw people over. I showed up a day after the release of the gold superman and asked if they ordered any, the obvious response was no. The following week I get a facebook message saying they have them in stock but are not 75$ anymore? He states they were issued at 1400$. I really think some dealers take collectors as being half retarded. Either way I'll never buy anything over issue price from those guys just because so shady and dishonest to customers. For local Montreal folks its Bluenose collectibles in Point Claire. https://www.facebook.com/BluenoseCollectible

I highly doubt that the gold Superman coin will go over $3000 anytime soon.
Every single hot NCLT coin in the last couple of years reach a certain price point or level and does not go over it. For the 5 penny coin set, it is around $400-$500 and the glass lady bug coin $800-$1000. The curent price level for the gold Superman is between $2000 and $2500. Except for those gold Superman coins sold as a 7 coin set, only one coin has sold for $3000. Plus there are dozens of listngs ended without any bidders or buyers.
The idea that rich collectors will pay anything to get the coin is absurd. Rich collectors who want the coin would have bought it by now. Plus rich people who became rich did not do so because they were stupid. They buy low and sell high.
Comparing the 1948 Canada Silver Dollar to the gold Superman gold is like comparing apples to oranges. While some coin collectors collect both NCLT and non-NCLT coins, some only collect one or the other. Sure there are more 1948 Canada dollars but how many of the 1948 Canada dollars are in high grade? How many are MS65+? Very few compared to the 2000 available gold Superman coins.

When I referenced the 1948 silver dollar, it was an example of how much a collector will spend for a rare coin he wants. It means there are people with the means to purchase what they truly want, regardless of what they need. While in university, I wanted to breed my Arab mare to a famous stallion. The stud fee was $5,000 very high in 1991. I rented a bachelor apt and took a roommate so I could afford the monthly payments. Back then my income was $610 and rent was $360. So if you really want something you will find a way. It took 11 months to pay off the stud fee, I did it however.

@pocket change 50, I love your response & story. You do what you can with what you have. How was the resulting breed?

@arianzo.....i didnt say 3,000 for gold superman xmas presents...... although it could be a possibility especially with a really low COA number ........and xmas shoppping doesn't really start in earnest for another 6 weeks anyways so we have a long period of time yet to see how the prices play out...gold coins are still being shipped out by the RCM so its very early to make bold predictions...but thats what I'm doing anyways in this forum....go Superman!

Hey, wow, thanks for posting an updated chart, curse9! And all your hard work with the other coins too! Well, it appears that support was found around the $1750 level and there was a bounce up from there. The top thus far is about $2500. Recently, there is a slight downtrend for this coin. Longer-term, a narrowing-in action is happening. So, in about a month, the price average will either skyrocket or drop like a rock. That's my take... Thanks again, curse9!

Quote:.so my guess is that 35% of the 2k mintage will be sold via ebay and other secondary markets ..thats 750 gold coins...for sale over xmas.... I admire your enthusiasm for this coin, Cassidy! I'm just wondering, if this were to happen, wouldn't the market get flooded and prices would drop as a result?

If someone decide today that he wants to buy the Superman gold coin, what are his options?
