@ allspice .....ebay listings will probably be a big factor in determining superman gold value but most collectors would prefer a respected name dealer....my guesstimate of 750 gold superman going to market from now on is pretty rough..it depends a lot on how much a collector will be inclined to sell their gold superman....so the numbers of gold in the hands of dealers would be an interesting study ...but in any case I think 750 is not exactly capable of flooding any market....but your point is consistant and time will tell. When the sellers who bought in at 2000 and up try to resell ....they will probably be asking for 3,000 and more than likely will hold off until they are more assured of that kind of price.....anyone who bought at cost would be happy with 2k for sure........especially if you have 2 of them.....and thats where we are at now.....
@ coin hooked, I ended up with a beautiful 31/32 Arabian filly, which I reluctantly sold as a 4 yr old. I was blessed as the owner adopted me too. Angie as it turned out has her birthday a day prior to mine. We travelled for several yrs together to all sorts of horse competitions. The mare ended up winning Reserve Champanion Region 17 reining for half Arabians. She became the foundation of Angie's horse farm, along with her dam. Now they have 5 generations of Arabs from my mare. So I still attained my goal of a top show horse, it just happened a little different. It goes to show you never know how you'll attain your goal or desired item and the people and influences on the way. I have met many wonderful sellers, who inspired me to collect and strive for better quality coins. They have shared their knowledge and desire for the hobby. Another inspiration is Mike, who's posts have taught me about how counterfeits can spread and ruin the hobby. Now I take a more a active roll in reporting auctions, and trying to educate both buyer and seller to the effects of counterfeits. I used to think it was only the rare expensive coins that were targeted. Now I've learned it's even the Nclt duck robin and glass coins. It all depends on how desirable someone finds the gold coin and how limited the supply is. This will determine the price of the coin months down the road, when people have time to save up the required funds, win some money. It comes down on to how you prioritize your spending. Some people may spend a ton on seasons tickets, I'm I inbibing spirits or smoking. I'm looking at a year down the road. As someone pointed out Superman collectors are worldwide. How many times do we see people on tv with large collections geared to 1 topic. It seems collecting period is becoming more popular.
@ Cassidy more than likely when spending that type of money people will want to purchase from a dealer, to guard against counterfeits. However, the dealer is going to need to source the coin from somewhere. With only 2,000 coins and lets say half are in hands that will not sell, it only leaves a 1,000 on the market for a global collector population. It will be interesting to see what this coin does in a yr or two ? Look at the crazyness of the 20,000 last penny rolls, who would have guessed those prices, for a roll that cost $10. I had thought $10 was too much for a roll of pennies in a fancy wrapper. There was no way I was going to bite. It seems these 2 products are the real sleepers, they initially went under the radar. Yet the most sought after and controversial coin( because people didn't have access) sold high at first and now is barely above release price and widely available. Remember it sold out in 2 hrs and how upset everyone was! It was talked about for a long time. Yet this gold coin was on the open market for over a week, before taking flight. It seems like one needs a crystal ball, to see how coins will do. There are beautiful coins like the untamed series that have been passed over in all this hype. I wonder how much does advertising and promotion tie Into this? Is anyone else celebrating Superman's 75th Anniversary ?
Gatewest is selling Gold Superman for 2400....Coinshoppe is asking 2300...both also deal on ebay I believe.....i tried Talisman but the page I got was still back in the 899 range! so I figure I may have got the wrong page! 5000 for a truly scarce hot coin is peanuts for a lot of seriously well funded collectors so I wouldnt be so surprised if our gold Superman really does live up to its 75 yr old worldwide respected name.....oh yeah.... I just read on msn where some famous model is showing off a bra worth 10 million...just think how much superman gold you could buy for that! you could buy Pandas whole box
Gatewest and the Coin Shoppe are basing their prices on current market values on ebay. Their prices are on the high side of what they are currently going for. But they are not pricing themselves out of the market by asking for a higher price like $3000. If the prices on ebay go up I am sure they will adjust their prices accordingly. The world wide interest in Superman is limited to North America and some English countries like the UK and Australia. Superman is not that well known in Asia. People in China never heard of Superman until recent movies. Kids did not grow up reading comic books in China. They did not even have comics under the Communists. Do you think people in Indonesia, Philippines, India, Afghanistan, Nigeria, Iraq really grew up with Superman? Let alone know who he is?
@moneypenny..really!? a casual international search shows you may be underestimating the WW popularity of our Canadian designed superhero...check out this ad from a little costume rental shop in Delhi India..and Spiderman is the other costume available..so get that spidey coin while its still cheap!

Sorry but I gotta say this... Cassidy77, you are sooooooo biased about the Gold Superman Coin. Take a moment to look back at all your posts about the gold superman coin...
@Casssidy77, I can assure you that when Superman came out in 1939, kids in China were not reading Superman, Batman, or any other comic book heroes. Such comics were not sold in China nor could could any kid read them if they were available. People lived in extreme poverty and war was going on between Japan and China. And I doubt anything was different in Japan and India. Any interest in Superman in Asia would be relatively recent in the last 15 or 20 years due to globalization. Remember western movies were not even allowed into China until relatively. Even now there is a quota on the amount of movies allowed in. Other countries simply do not have the 75 years exposure to Superman we have. We see Superman on the TV in the 1950's with George Reeves, Batman with Adam West in the 1960's, Smallville in the 2000's. Lots of people in 3rd world countries never seen those shows. Superman is a cultural icon in North America. Superman has not reach that status in other parts of the world.
And where he (Superman) did reach - people did not believed in him. According to the people "They (USA) need someone to protect them, while we do believe in Man ability and not some fantastic superman".
Well, this sure wasn't common thoughts, but this what I've heard.
