Was kinda bored and figured I would open up one of my 1979 OBW's (got 4 more...fingers crossed).. about half way through I find 2 double 9's (first nine)... I thought very cool glad I opened this roll... then I finished checking the reverse on a coin and flipped a coin (like I have done thousands of times) and was like huh that's weird... double checked and sure enough it was rotated at about 45+d. Now I was elated as this was my first rotated find (super awesome it was a OBW roll). I go on and check the rest of the roll to find 3 more.... All rotated the same way. Super score in my book.

Now the question what would you value these at? I looked on ebay and didn't find anything comparable that was in ms condition that was rotated this much.

Nice find, every time I check out a roll of coins I go in this order

1. check for any error for that date.
2. check for doubling on reserve side. Check to see if its a clean coin good enough for grading.
3. turn the coin around to see if there is any rotation.
4. check Observe for any error for that date. Check to see if its clean enough to send for grading.
5. check for any doubling or anything strange that jumps out. Die cracks, lamination errors polished die errors Etc.

I think everyone has their own way of looking at a coin. Die rotation should be a part of everyone's routine for checking out a coin....

Excellent Find! where did you get the roll, was it unopened?

Thanks chuck... Its was a Original Bank Wrapped roll marked Brinks. I purchased it online in bulk (I believe it included 9 1979 rolls). I sold 3-4 and then the rest has been just sitting in my drawer until tonight lol.

Very cool rotation! Definitely worth a nice premium in beautiful right red. Auctions unpredictable, but I would say $25 on a bad day and $100 on a good one. A similar nickel just sold on ebay at $237 (mentioned in another strong here). Nickels are less common than cents though.

If you decide to sell one, I would definitely be interested.

I'll be listing one on ebay tonight if anyone is interested. Probably be the only one being listed as the rest are in my collection or already called for.
